Hi folks,
Happy Halloween weekend!
Week in Review
Each of your groups met with me independently this week, so we had a great opportunity to talk about all of your diverse op-eds and ways to develop, evolve, and refine them going forward. For Sunday, you'll be posting a new revised version of your op-ed. This version should show significant evolution from the initial piece. (After you post the second one to the Blog, I'll delete the prior one.)
As you work, you may find it useful to review to these resources:
Guidelines for reviewing your peers' work; this document can be useful to think about what elements I am going to be most focused on in terms of evaluating your work
They Say, I Say readings: introduction, chapters on "they say," chapter on "I say"; as well as TSIS slideshow from class on effective paraphrase and quotation of sources
Reading and slideshow on Characters and Actions (strengthen those sentences!!)
Remember that your revised op-ed post (Project 2) is due at 6pm on Sunday unless otherwise arranged. Late assignments do cumulatively affect your course grade negatively. (And you even get an extra hour because daylight savings time ends overnight!!)
Next Week...
You may notice that Week 9 has not yet been posted to our Assignment Details. Don't worry; I'm on it! (It's been a crazy week for me, as for all of you.)
Part of the reason for this delay is that I am rethinking what we most need to discuss next week. If you look over the semester calendar, we don't have many "lesson" weeks left, compared to peer review weeks. I want to re-think what we were originally going to do for weeks 9 and 10. I will post these detailed schedules as early as I can over the weekend. (There will be no at-home prep for Monday morning; focus on your op-ed revision.)
Class meetings next week: Monday and Thursday
As promised, however, we'll meet 2 times instead of 3 for "live" Zoom sessions. Next week, it seems only appropriate that we omit Wednesday, Nov. 4th, from our meetings. I won't give you a replacement exercise, either. Whether you'll have lost sleep on election night or are spending Wednesday in a high fit of energy, whether positively or negatively, it probably behooves us all to have the day off. So: Sleep. Hydrate. Regroup.
Have a safe and healthy holiday weekend!!
Best, Dr. V
