Saturday Summary 11/7

Hi folks,

Now that you might be less focused on red and blue, here is a quick Saturday post to follow up on my prior email this week regarding Sunday's assignment.

  1. Post length should be about 400-500 words (not 1,000).

  2. Write this short op-ed-style piece from the perspective of the opposition. This does not mean write from your own voice about why the opposition is wrong or why you disagree with it. Write as if you are someone who holds this viewpoint. Inhabit the claims, logic, reasoning, perspective of the opposition.

  3. Narrow your topic. Draw from the 3-4 claims that you posted on this week's Google document not unrelated threads of thought but one very specific, particular argument. Make one strong central claim.

  4. This post should incorporate 2 paragraphs:

  • Paragraph a: "They say / I say" introduction. Lay out the terms of the specific conversation; indicate the various possible viewpoints; state your claim (as the opposition). In essence, your own op-ed's "I say" now becomes incorporated into the "they say" of this piece. [Consider applying the intro paragraph template from They Say, I Say page 9]

  • Paragraph b: Explain the reasons behind the "I say." Provide validation for the claim. Support its logic with evidence and convincing points.

As always, please email me with questions.

Best,

Dr. V
